2005 Programme Chosen

We got together at the Church Hall on Friday 14th to select plays for the forthcoming year. Here's "what's on"...

MAY

"Great Happiness!" - the Woodhouse cabaret, Sat 7 May, Leytonstone Library, 7.30pm

We had to postpone the cabaret from February, so it now falls around AGM time. Acts from Woodhousers to celebrate a year of exciting new stuff and all our members. Compèred by Oliver Clement. It will be preceded by a special Cabaret Workshop by professional artiste Paul L. Martin. If you'd like to create an act (a sketch, a monologue, a song, a routine) mail chair@woodhouseplayers.co.uk

"Jules Versus The Next Contestants" by Ita Hill, late May, WCH.

Ita will be putting on her play as a full production, with auditions for all members in March.

JUNE/JULY

Stephen Balchin has suggested a rehearsed reading of one-act plays by Pinter and Berkoff for June or July. Exact programme to be determined in a meeting in May (at the same time as choosing panto).

JULY

"Metamorphosis" by Steven Berkoff, after Franz Kafka, mid July, WCH

Auditions are on Wed 6 April, 7.30pm for this tense piece of physical theatre in which Gregor Samsa awakens one day to find he has been transformed in his bed into a giant insect. The embarrassment of his family and the wretchedness of his existence are explored in a piece made famous by Steven Berkoff's unique style of performance.

Directed by Carla MacLean.

SEPTEMBER

"Second From Last in the Sack Race" by David Nobbs, late Sept (or possibly early Oct), WCH

Recounting the comical history of Henry Pratt, growing up in Yorkshire in the middle of the last century. A parrot that can only say "bugger off" and embarrassed conversations about breaking wind feature in this funny, quintessentially Northern play.

Directed by Stephen Balchin. Auditions in July.

OCTOBER

"Jekyll and Hyde - the panto" by Thos Ribbits and Tim Saward, 26-29 October, The Broadway, Barking.

A large-scale comedy-musical-panto-halloween caper from the people that brought you 2003's Dracula - the Vampire Strikes Back. A comic retelling of the famous split personality story which discards most of Robert Louis Stevenson's plot and replaces it with corny old gags, and some impressive digital artwork. In association with Theatretrain.

Directed by Tim Saward. Co-directed by Carla MacLean. Auditions in July. See also www.jekyllshow.co.uk

See you in May for the panto-selection!

Tim
